WoWMatrix doesn't pay the storage bills or the bandwidth bills for the addons you download through its program. WoWMatrix makes money off of providing access to addons it doesn't host. No similar understanding is attached to WoWMatrix.Ĥ. While the erstwhile WoWAce suffered from this problem to a lesser degree, it was generally understood that everything on WoWAce should be considered beta. They'll just download an addon, deem it broken, and tell their friends that "Addon X sucks, don't use it". Users who find and download an addon through WoWMatrix will never see that warning. On a release site, an author can place a big, bold warning at the top of the description stating than an addon is under development, currently in beta status, is not yet complete, and/or may be unstable. WoWMatrix doesn't show the author's description of an addon anywhere. This means that users who download an addon through their program have no way to give feedback to the author, or report problems they may encounter.ģ. ESET Cyber Security for Mac combines Mac antivirus protection with a collection of useful bonus features, though admittedly, the bonus features don't pack the punch of their Windows equivalents. Some of the environments, too, are gorgeous, though you can't afford to stand around too long lest you be killed by the ghost. The hand-drawn sprite work and animation is wonderful, and the image is always crystal clear. Like the gameplay, the art style is familiar but different. We touched on it earlier, but we really do need to give a shoutout to the game's visuals. Deathmatch and Hold the Idol are both fun alternatives to the main attraction, but we're not sure why these modes are excluded from online play. Arena lets you hash things out in two competitive multiplayer modes for four local players. Seeded Runs unlock after finding enough characters, and allow you to go into specific layouts. Unfortunately there's no quick way to find your position on the high score chart or compare with friends, which is odd. Daily Challenge returns, giving everyone an identical set of levels for a chance to top the leaderboards. This will hopefully be fixed, but right now it's a bit messy. The net code isn't great, and leads to games full of jittery player characters. Online multiplayer, on the other hand, can be a bit of a gamble. Whether you're blasting your way through the destructible terrain with a load of bombs or outrunning the fancy new liquid physics, there's never once a hitch in performance. For as much as the gameplay stays the same, the sequel is a far richer experience with more intricate and interesting levels to explore. A "second layer" in each level is accessed via various doors, and may hide treasure, useful items, and other secrets. New NPCs give you more varied runs than before, providing micro-tasks like herding turkeys or completing basic challenges. Rideable creatures afford you a double jump and new attack, but juggling these beasts while trying to carry, say, a health-giving pet to the exit can be pretty fiddly. Lots of new enemies have been added the Dwelling's mole, for example, now means even the earth beneath your feet could be hazardous. Each level also contains a "back layer" you can enter at certain spots, revealing hidden passages and other secrets. If you're coming to the sequel from Spelunky 1, you'll find the game plays very similarly, but there are a number of changes and additions that mean you can't rely on pure muscle memory.Īt the end of the Dwelling are two exits leading to two totally different worlds. A lot is given to the player in this first area, and it's where you'll learn most of your harsh lessons: don't underestimate any enemy, be on the lookout for traps, and robbing the shop is very dangerous. Here, you'll be introduced to basic enemies like snakes and bats, traps like spike pits and arrow traps, and other elements like shops and other NPCs. Playing as the daughter of the original game's hero, you start your adventure in the Dwelling, a location similar to the Mines. It makes for a tough game, but it's ingenious nonetheless. One move can set off an uncontrollable chain reaction of events as physics and AI react to the actions of the player and everything else. The game's world feels alive, and you're just one part of the mechanism. Learning how all the enemies and systems play into each other is key to a successful run. It's through playing and dying repeatedly that you'll slowly but surely find your feet. As you grow accustomed to the many obstacles in your path, you'll slowly realise that there's a remarkable level of interwoven systems all playing out around you. Some will find the level of challenge and permadeath too much, but this is a game that truly rewards patience and player skill. Like its predecessor, Spelunky 2's cute aesthetic belies its extreme difficulty. In hilarious, embarrassing, and infuriating ways. You'll die and start over, over and over and over again. You'll run, jump, attack with thrown objects and your trusty whip, and die. Equipped with a few ropes and bombs, your job is to make it as far as you can through several themed worlds. The core of this series is a short adventure mode in which you delve into an underground labyrinth full of treasures to plunder and beasties to best. It's of course very much the same with Spelunky 2, a sequel that builds upon the successes of the original with a suite of new ways to both delight and destroy you. A roguelike platformer with a myriad of moving parts, the procedurally generated underground worlds have a strict set of rules, and you must follow them, lest you be punished in surprisingly gruesome ways. Spelunky is the definition of "harsh but fair". Now, we’re all Thunderbolt fans here, but TB-certified peripherals and docks and enclosures often come at a very steep price, and that’s something you should definitely keep in mind if you’re gearing to invest in this whole ecosystem. The Mac Studio, in particular, has most (if not all) of the ports one would need, but in case you end up needing more, you’ll have to buy additional accessories like Thunderbolt docks, external SSDs, and so on. Still, its gamut of ports might become limiting further down the line depending on your workflow and use-case scenario. That (admittedly quite beautiful) machine comes with a fairly solid selection of I/O - standard fare for what any creative working in a studio would need. This particular SoC can currently only be found in Apple’s Mac Studio. Pretty much, yes, but one could argue that those strengths and virtues come at too big of a cost - depending on what you’re after and what you deem acceptable, of course. Is the M1 Ultra more advanced and efficient than any other desktop processor on the market? Being shackled to our products without any say in the matter is not something we’d consider good business practice. In other words: while the M1 Ultra is mind-blowingly powerful (ditto for its less capable “siblings”), it does come with a series of trade-offs, some of which are more justified than others. That is a very concrete limitation and you should be aware of it. If you purchase any M1-based Mac today, you’ll be “stuck” with that machine until it stops working or you happen to sell it. Upgrading your memory or processor or motherboard or whatever really should by no means be a luxury. The “consummate professionals,” on the other hand, want to have a bit more control over their hardware and the way in which they harness its potential. They want a machine that works well no matter the workload, and the less they have to tinker with it the better. Now, for most “average Joes” that’s not necessarily an issue. Not only is the M1 Ultra an expensive SoC, but it also offers virtually no user reparability or upgradeability whatsoever. Still, such an intricate, highly advanced production process has to come at a cost, and sure enough, it does - both literally and figuratively. Here’s a closer look at Apple’s M1 UltraFusion Apple M1 Ultra Chip. The fact that all of these components (and so much more) are housed on just a single chip (manufactured on a 5nm node from TSMC, no less) makes it all the more impressive. That’s quite a lot of… everything, really. The most spec’d out variant of the M1 Ultra comes with a 20-core CPU, 64-core GPU, and a whopping 128GB of unified (RAM) memory. They ran into extreme heat, power, and bandwidth limitations. Both AMD and Nvidia have tried this but did not have much success so far. It is a technological marvel, in short.Īpple’s implementation is different from Intel’s and AMD’s interconnect because it handles GPU as well. This does sound like something AMD or Intel have done in the past, but not at this scale. M1 Ultra - Let’s Talk SpecsĪt its core, the M1 Ultra is basically two M1 Max SoCs fused together with a high enough bandwidth between them to function as one single chip. In other words: they bring numerous architectural improvements (to say the least) and are more than worthy of our undivided time and attention. So when they reach for the most ostentatious superlatives and talk about their SoCs as if they were the next best thing since sliced bread and the discovery of Penicillin, know that they’re not lying. The M1 Ultra is their crowning achievement, a technological tour de force. The things this venerable company has achieved with its M1 line-up are nothing short of extraordinary.Ī tremendous generational leap of this kind has never been pulled off before well, at least not with Apple’s precision and execution, both of which have been downright awe-inspiring. So when Apple executives go on stage and toot their own horn, they sort of have an excuse. Let’s start off with the hype first: the M1 Ultra is not only one of the most advanced SoCs on the market but also an indication of what’s coming our way and what the future of personal computing will look like in just a few years’ time. Or is that just something that Apple wants us all to believe?Īs is so often the case, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Adam broke God’s Edenic Covenant, and the result is we are all born in and under sin. "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:"–Romans 5.12Īdam’s sin is universal to all mankind. The Bible says sin entered the world through one man, Adam. This was a rebellious sinful act against God. Sin originated with Satan, who said, "I will": "For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds I will be like the most High."–Isaiah 14.13-14 Here you see Satan turning to his own way. Let us search God’s Word for a clear understanding of this good news: You can receive eternal life, the gift of God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. You no longer have to be bound by sin, or separated from God. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who has paid for your sins. Would you like to receive God’s gift of eternal life? First you must realize that you are a sinner, and sin separates you from God. "For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." –Romans 6:23 The Bible gives clear answers about death and survival… Have you truly thought about death? What will happen? Can you honestly say that you know what will happen when you die? Many people have beliefs, but are those beliefs based on truth, have they truly been tested?
